Powder Tower and city wall

The Powder Tower (Pulverturm) along with the remnants of the old city wall is the last visible evidence of the former fortifications. These encircled the city with four main gates, several minor entrances and various defensive towers.

The Pulverturm, most likely built in the second half of the 15th century, was used to store gunpowder. It entered private ownership in 1806 but was bought back by the city in 1927. The tower has been integrated into the Mulde-Paradies gardens, forming a link between the city's medieval heritage and the modern riverside park.
