The Old Mint Yard is the oldest house on Zwickau's Hauptmarkt (main market square) and was once a medieval mint. Indeed, proof of this has been found in the building's basement. The building, itself, dates from the 13th century, and parts of an impressive Early Gothic sandstone doorway and the remnants of a large arched window are still visible in this Hauptmarkt façade today. Amazing architectural relics can also be found inside the house, including a historical wood ceiling, double wall niches containing the remainders of a wooden seat and three exposed wall columns dating from the early Renaissance. The building's current orange-green façade matches the original designs for its last refurbishment in around 1926.
