The Martin Römer Medal of Honour can be awarded to persons who have provided outstanding services to the welfare or reputation of the city and its citizens through successful work and commitment and who should therefore be publicly honoured.
In addition, the Martin Römer Medal of Honour can also be awarded to associations, groups, organisations or initiatives that have made outstanding contributions to the welfare or reputation of the city and its citizens through outstanding, unselfish and continuous commitment and for this reason should be publicly honoured. Parties or party-related institutions are excluded from the outset.
The Martin Römer Medal of Honour of the City of Zwickau is minted in silver and bears on the front a portrait of Martin Römer with the inscription "Martin Römer 1430 - 1483". The coat of arms of the City of Zwickau is embossed on the reverse side with the inscription "Für Verdienste Stadt Zwickau" ("For services to the City of Zwickau").
