In the centre of the city, on the Main Market Square, stands the beautiful Renaissance building of the Gewandhaus - an architecturally dominant building with a unique charisma, which is currently undergoing general renovation.
Since the beginning of the 19th century, the Gewandhaus has been the theatre's venue; during the period of renovation, performances are held in the converted Malsaal behind the Gewandhaus and in other alternative venues.
The Theatre Plauen-Zwickau, which merged with the Plauen Theatre in 2000, offers opera, operetta, musical, ballet and drama as well as concerts.
