Information and communication technologies are of paramount importance for a modern, knowledge-based society. High-performance broadband internet connections are indispensable for the application of new innovative technologies - not least against the background of increasing digitisation.
In this respect, the following infrastructures are available in the City of Zwickau:
- Fibre optic infrastructure (FTTC)
- Coax network
- Classical copper network
Large parts of the Zwickau city area are supplied by Telekom (current expansion status: https://www.telekom.de/breitbandausbau-deutschland) and by the cable network of Tele Columbus GmbH. In addition, selected industrial and commercial areas and business locations are supplied by enviaTEL infrastructure.

The telecommunications providers are generally responsible for the expansion of internet connections in Zwickau, as in Germany in general. The commitment of the public authorities is voluntary and linked to a very long and arduous funding process.
The Federal Government has confirmed its intention to push ahead with the expansion with the aim of achieving nationwide coverage with at least 50 Mbit/s in 2018. For more information click here.
This funding opportunity is supplemented by the Digital Offensive Saxony (DiOS). For more inforamtion click here.
Taking advantage of the funding opportunities offered by the federal and state governments, there are to be no more "white spots", i.e. areas with less than 30 Mbit/s, and at least 50 Mbit/s and beyond will be available throughout the City of Zwickau by the end of 2018/2019.
Please contact the providers (network operators) listed below regarding availability and connection modalities.
